Mission Aware MBSE Meta-Model

This presentation will overview the Mission Aware (MA) meta-model (https://www.mission-aware.net) which is an extension of Vitech’s GENESYS MBSE meta-model that incorporates aspects of the MIT Systems Theoretic Process Analysis for safety and security, and Virginia Tech’s research in Cyber Resilient Systems Engineering. A complimentary Cyber Security Requirements Methodology (CSRM) will be presented and used to organize the discussion of the MA meta-model.

A current research project within the Systems Engineering Research Center (https://sercuarc.org) is to create a Digital Engineering (DE) Digital Textbook (https://github.com/tsherburne/de-textbook) in support of a Secure Cyber-Resilient Engineering (SCRE) credential for the Defense Acquisition University (https://www.dau.edu) which is based on the MA Meta-Model and Methodologies.

Speaker Bio

Tim Sherburne is a research associate within the Virginia Tech National Security Institute.
He was previously a member of the systems engineering staff at the University of Virginia supporting Mission Aware research through rapid prototyping of cyber resilient solutions and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) specifications. Prior to joining the University of Virginia, he worked at Motorola
Solutions in various Software Development and Systems Engineering roles defining and building mission critical public safety communications systems. Tim holds a M.S. in computer science from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a B.S. in electrical engineering from Marquette University.
